Athlete Development Program
Our Athlete Development Program is designed to support students who are passionate about taking their karate training to the next level.
Open to dedicated students of all ages who show potential and commitment, this program provides structured support for those interested in progressing through competitive Sport Karate at regional, national, and international levels.
The program focuses on developing athletic performance across key areas including advanced kumite and kata skills, strength and conditioning, goal setting, mindset coaching and competition readiness. In addtion to physical and technical development, we place strong emphasis on character, sportsmanship, and resilience - ensuring each athlete grows not only as a competitor but as a well-rounded martial artists.
This program runs alongside our core karate classes and is ideal for students who are motivated to achieve their personal best and pursue excellence within the sport.
Selections are held every January and August.
Our Academy competition squad is split into two squads; The Grassroots Squad, and The Evolution Squad.
Grassroots Squad
The Grassroots are the first level of competitors. Those who are early on in their competition journey.
Students selected for this squad will be presented with Scotland-based development competitions to take part in, as well as monthly in-house squad training.
Evolution Squad
The Evolution Squad are those who are more experienced in competition, and those working to earn a place on JKS Scotland’s National Team.
Those selected for this squad have a number of Scotland and England based competitions available to them, and will also be selected to attend JKS Scotland’s monthly National Team training at the HQ in Dunfermline, as well as our own monthly squad training.
Those who are successful in earning a place on JKS’s National Team will also have a host of national and international competitions available to them.
What have we achieved so far?
Our karate squad can boast some incredible achievements so far, and it’s only going to get better and better.
Our Grassroots team consistently medal, and champion, at the development competitions. Whether that’s in kata or kumite, the talent we’ve been able to foster is undoubted.
More notable medal wins include JKS Scotland National Kata and Kumite champions (gold medals), Karate Scotland Kata and Kumite champions, British champions and medal winners, and our most prestigious medal place yet was securing a bronze medal at the JKS World Championships in Tokyo last summer.
But the medals and wins are just the cherry on the cake.
The maturity, independence, resilience and character building that happens as a result of being a competitor is priceless.
